The WIAA is proud to announce that the Student-Athlete Leadership Team is now accepting applications for its inaugural class!

Applications will be accepted between April 1st through May 3rd.  The WIAA Student Athlete Leadership Team is a collection of diverse student-athlete leaders from member schools across the state. This group of student-athletes will serve as ambassadors for their peers and the WIAA while learning more about the sports industry through various committee activities. Within the activities, the group will provide a student voice with the WIAA and be the point people for creating and executing an annual student-athlete leadership conference for member schools.

Who can apply? Incoming Juniors and Seniors in the 2024-2025 school year who have completed a minimum of one season of a WIAA-sponsored sport.

Application Process: Qualified applicants (students) are asked to complete an application through the WIAA website  https://www.wiaawi.org/Schools/Student-Athlete-Leadership.  Once the WIAA office receives an application form, you as the athletic director will be sent a follow-up email as a reference check for your student-athlete who applied for the leadership team.

Rüsselsheim, Germany exchange Host families needed!:

Will you have a student attending Oshkosh West in the 2024-2025 school year? Are you interested in hosting a German student for two weeks? The Oshkosh West Sister School program will be hosting approximately 20 German students for two weeks in October of 2024 (exact dates are to be determined). We need host families! The host families are responsible for providing food, transportation, and sleeping accommodation for the German student. The German students are very well versed in English. For more information about hosting  click here

The plan is we will then travel to Germany in June of 2025 and stay with host families. The approximate cost of the trip to Germany will be around $2500.00. Here are some of the things we have experienced on a previous trip.  If you need any more information please contact Patrick Bertram at patrick.bertram@oshkosh.k12.wi.us or Kelly Wayne at kelly.wayne@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Are you or do you have a student athlete who struggles with anxiety or confidence while playing sports?  What about coachability, understanding and accepting your role, communication/leadership skills, self-talk, perfectionism, or the ability to overcome adversity or conflicts?  Good news, we have the perfect class for you!  Mental Strength aims to identify the performance setbacks athletes face that are holding them back from using their athletic skills to the best of their abilities.  It is a unique, hybrid class connected to Strength + Conditioning.  If you are taking Strength + Conditioning next school year, consider getting the most out of your sport by not only training your muscles, but also training your mind by signing up for Mental Strength.  Mental Strength meets once every two weeks during your Strength + Conditioning class.  It will show up in your schedule as an 8th hour, but don't worry you will have no outside of school hour commitment and it will not take away from any of your other scheduled classes.  If you have any questions or you want to sign up, please email Mrs. Hansen (jessica.hansen@oshkosh.k12.wi.us).
