West Students and Families,
Although every school day is important, Oshkosh West Administration wants to share some critical information about the first day of school this year, including safety training and other key schoolwide training that it will be crucial for your student to be present for.
Oshkosh West is going to offer the following schedule on the first day of school (see below). It is important to note that the bell schedule and the class schedule will not change for this day. Students will follow their normal schedule. However, in each class, students will spend the first half of the period doing something specific to their assigned class. During the second half of class they will be trained on specific safety and logistical things at West.
STUDENTS WITH PRIVILEGE AND OPEN HOUR(S): On Tuesday, September 3, students with open hours or privilege during study hall are NOT expected to attend during their open hour, however, they will be expected to view the information being shared on their own. Recordings/slideshows of the trainings will be sent out to open hour students after the first day of school. If you have an open hour or privilege and would like to attend the trainings in person, you may report to the auditorium for this/these hour(s). This will only pertain to the first day of school.
Topics covered by hour:
- Zero Hour- Digital hall pass training
- 1st Hour - LIVE Announcements with Administration to discuss school wide policies (part 1)
- 2nd Hour - LIVE Announcements with Administration to discuss school wide policies (part 2)
- 3rd Hour - Speak Up, Speak Out, training (anonymous online reporting system)
- Homeroom - Get To Know You Survey
- 4th Hour - Brain Break/Community Building
- 5th Hour - Emergency Preparedness, Part 1
- 6th Hour - Emergency Preparedness, Part 2
- 7th Hour- Digital hall pass training
The purpose of this drill is to practice what we learned during our training the day before. Students will practice barricading a classroom and then will transition to an evacuation to the football field. We will run a 45-minute W Hour schedule for this day (September 4th).
As a school, we are very excited to welcome our students back, and we look forward to seeing everyone here to have a great start to our school year! We feel that the best way to prepare for a successful year is to set every student up for success through these trainings. Please help us start the year off right by making sure your student is in school on the first day, Tuesday, September 3rd.
Sincerely,
Oshkosh West Administration

Luna will be accompanying Jana Weigandt, a Program Support Coordinator, at various times. Therapy dogs can help reduce stress, provide comfort, and help improve emotional well-being and self-esteem.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jana at 920-424-0078 x6220 or at jana.weigandt@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.
