Save the Date - Aspiring Titan Teachers Day April 9

The UW Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services is excited to announce Aspiring Titan Teachers Day on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 9:30am to 2:00 pm on the UW Oshkosh Campus!

This event is intended for all students who are interested in pursuing education and human services, including members of Educators Rising, as a possible career. Students will spend the day learning about how to become a teacher, attending a mini course, touring the campus, interacting with a panel of pre-service teachers, and meeting some of their future professors. Free Dental Opportunity-Bridging Brighter Smiles

Wisconsin American Legion Law Enforcement Career Academy Opportunity

Are you or do you have students who are currently in their junior or senior year and are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement or a related field? If so, the Wisconsin American Legion Law Enforcement Career Academy (WALLECA) is a great opportunity for these students. WALLECA is a 5 day camp that offers physical fitness training, classroom instruction and hands on experiences.

The 2025 academy is scheduled for June 23- June 27, 2025 at the Wisconsin State Patrol Training Academy at Fort McCoy.

The academy is totally free to the cadets as we are funded by generous sponsors. The cadets stay in the dorms at the academy, all meals and supplies are furnished.

The graduation ceremony is held on the last day of the academy, friends and family can attend. The cadets receive a certificate of completion.

Some of the classes offered during the academy are: Ethics, Crash Investigation, Crime Scene Investigation, Tactical Response. Probation/Parole, Firearms Training, Confidence Team Building Exercises, Physical Fitness training, and many more.

The application process is now open until March 31 – see link below. The application must be printed out, completed to include all required signatures. It can be sent in the US mail or scanned and emailed to sheri@wilegion.org. Students that have any questions about the program can contact Sheri directly. Applications will be reviewed in the month of April and all applicants will be notified if they are accepted into the program by May 1.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

Appointments/leaving building options:

Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal - You can submit preplanned absence request online!
- In IC go under More > Absence Request.
  - Please make sure to fill out all the fields with your information so we can accurately mark your student's attendance.
  - Please allow us a minimum of 1 hour notice if your student needs to leave the building early so we have time to locate your student.
Send note with student - should be brought to Student Services before appointment to get a pass.
Call in advance - If leaving voicemail, please let us know student’s name, reason for leaving and from which door you will pick student up. Call (920) 424-4090 x4 or (920) 424-4070.
Email - you are welcome to email us for excused absences. Please email kelsey.gates@oshkosh.k12.wi.us and marcia.gonzalez@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.

Note - we are often busy on phones or helping students, so if it’s a last minute request, a call is probably the best option. We check voicemails often.

Student Services will write a pass for the student to leave and will have it delivered to the student during one of the classes before the time they are to leave. Students can leave out of Door 38 (in front by flagpole) or Door 24 (gym doors) ONLY, please let us know which door to mark on the pass. The student must sign out on the kiosk at the specified door and can leave the building.

If your student is returning from an appointment, or arriving late, they MUST sign in at either door on the kiosk so we can update attendance. They can return through either Door 24 and Door 38.

If there is an appointment that comes up with short notice, please let us know ASAP, it sometimes takes a bit to locate students and get them a pass to leave.

Safety Information

In order to ensure the safety of our students and staff, all guests at Oshkosh West High School need to have an appointment to enter the building. Guests must bring a photo ID which will be scanned upon entrance. Guests are encouraged to park in the street parking on Eagle Street across from the school and enter Door 38. If parking is full, guests may park in the visitor spaces in the large lot at the corner of Taft and Eagle Streets and enter Door 24.
Did you know...West has over 100 cameras inside and outside of our school, so most of the time, if we get a report about something taking place, we are able to use the camera video recordings to get to the bottom of things. The cameras inside the building are located in halls and common areas like the cafeterias and gyms. We encourage students and parents to report anything that might be concerning. We do take anonymous reports as well, so if you don't feel comfortable leaving your name, that is fine. We always investigate tips and reports that come to us.
Speak Up, Speak Out Tipline: Created by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, students, parents, school staff, or any community member can anonymously submit a school safety concern or threat. SUSO resource center staff work around-the-clock to respond to tips and deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators and law enforcement. Once you submit your tip, please keep the chat window open to answer any questions the resource center specialist might have for you to get more actionable information for school administration or police.
