Rüsselsheim, Germany exchange Host families needed!:
Will you have a student attending Oshkosh West in the 2024-2025 school year? Are you interested in hosting a German student for two weeks? The Oshkosh West Sister School program will be hosting approximately 20 German students for two weeks in October of 2024 (exact dates are to be determined). We need host families! The host families are responsible for providing food, transportation, and sleeping accommodation for the German student. The German students are very well versed in English. For more information about hosting click here.
The plan is we will then travel to Germany in June of 2025 and stay with host families. The approximate cost of the trip to Germany will be around $2500.00. Here are some of the things we have experienced on a previous trip. If you need any more information please contact Patrick Bertram at patrick.bertram@oshkosh.k12.wi.us or Kelly Wayne at kelly.wayne@oshkosh.k12.wi.us

Are you or do you have a student athlete who struggles with anxiety or confidence while playing sports? What about coachability, understanding and accepting your role, communication/leadership skills, self-talk, perfectionism, or the ability to overcome adversity or conflicts? Good news, we have the perfect class for you! Mental Strength aims to identify the performance setbacks athletes face that are holding them back from using their athletic skills to the best of their abilities. It is a unique, hybrid class connected to Strength + Conditioning. If you are taking Strength + Conditioning next school year, consider getting the most out of your sport by not only training your muscles, but also training your mind by signing up for Mental Strength. Mental Strength meets once every two weeks during your Strength + Conditioning class. It will show up in your schedule as an 8th hour, but don't worry you will have no outside of school hour commitment and it will not take away from any of your other scheduled classes. If you have any questions or you want to sign up, please email Mrs. Hansen (jessica.hansen@oshkosh.k12.

Do you have a student that is a good public speaker – perhaps involved in Forensics and is knowledgeable about the US Constitution? The American Legion has an Oratorical contest program that is a good opportunity for students to win scholarship monies.
The student must be in 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade.
The students start out by contacting their local Wisconsin American Legion Post. The Post will hold a contest, the winner at the Post contest moves on to a County contest. The winner of the County contest moves on to the District contest.
The winner of the District Contest moves on to the Regional contest scheduled on March 23, 2024 at Ripon College. The winners at the Regional level move on to the Finals contest the same day and the overall winner will go to the National Contest in Hillsdale, Michigan in May to compete for $25,000 in scholarship. The winner of the Wisconsin contest receives a $3000 scholarship.
If the student is interested, and does not know who to contact at their local American Legion Post, they can contact me directly and I can share that information with them.
I have attached the rules, assigned topics and flyer along with a link to our National American Legion website and the Wisconsin American Legion that has a lot of information and videos for those who are interested.
